In an unbalanced, unsustainable, violent world, the one priority of every person, group, and town, is to live to transform it.
nova is an independent, non-profit association that promotes social innovation in order to create new models and practices aimed at moving the society towards a sustainable world for all.
The programs and projects developed by nova have shown that the application of social innovation can succeed in areas such as nonviolence in action, participative democracy, transparency and for searching alternatives to the system, among others.
nova not only creates social innovation initiatives, but also collects and supports people who is developing or wants to develop this kind of initiatives. In order to do so, nova has a specific program, the Novalab Area.
In the view of nova, developing and supporting new social innovation initiatives is as important as putting in practice and spreading those ones that already exist. This is what the Nonviolence in Action program does: it recovers, redefines and spreads in the Middle East the nonviolence resistance movement that Mahatma Gandhi put in place in India at the beginning of the XX century.
We are active citizens
nova relies on active citizens who practice social innovation and can initiate long lasting social transformations. nova considers that political action made by citizens (long away from politicians) is necessary; that’s why nova addresses dissatisfied citizens who don’t want to remain passive while perceiving that conventional institutions don’t give any answer or solution to the systemic crisis that is suffered in all of world.
Active citizens not only have the ability to analyze the systemic crisis but also to make new proposals. If we are able to apply innovation and creativity to our daily work and to difficult technological situations, we should also be able to apply them to sort out the most pressing problems of our society.
Where we work
Since its establishment, nova cooperates with other institutions and associations which develop projects on social innovation, nonviolence in action, alternatives to the system and participation and transparency. The association is part of a wide range of nationals and international alliances. nova works at the national level but also in other countries.
In fact, thinking locally but acting globally is the way that nova follows in its daily activity. It means that what it is done at the local level needs to have an impact and an application at the global level, as so the neoliberal globalitzation challenges that we face are.
